The strength of Country baseball in NSW was demonstrated in the final, with the NSW Country Bluesox beating the NSW Metro Bluesox team 5-2 after seven innings.
The 20-player NSW Country Bluesox team was made up of elite players from Illawarra, Central Coast, Newcastle, Tamworth and Coffs Harbour associations.
All players and their families made significant sacrifices for training sessions in Sydney, Newcastle and the Central Coast in preparation for the national championships from January 6-14.
NSW Country Bluesox took on Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, ACT and the NSW Metro Bluesox team during the national carnival.
Three Illawarra members of the Country team – Alex Fisher, Jonathon Hall-Walsh (Cardinals) and Joel Thompson are from the Wests Cardinals, while Dylan Rower, Angus Black and Alex Osborne are talented Northern Pirates juniors.
Illawarra-based Darren Thompson (Cardinals) was also part of the three-person coaching staff of the triumphant NSW Country Bluesox team.
