Grand quest: Mildura duo eye International wildcards
LOCAL young guns Sheree Moore and Zac Robinson will compete in the qualifying draw as they vie for a wildcard entry into the Mildura Grand Tennis International early next month.
The ATP Pro Tour event will be headlined by Australian Open marathon man Jordan Thompson, Riverland native Luke Saville and multiple Mildura International champion Brydan Klein when it starts on March 2.
Moore and Robinson, both 16, will be joined in the qualifying rounds by former locals Andrea Mastrippolito and Nathan Mayes.
Melbourne duo Azra Hadzic, the 2013 Mildura ladies’ singles runner-up, and Viktorija Rajicic, will both return next month, with $15,000 and world-ranking points up for grabs.
Mildura Lawn Tennis Club coach Justin Raiti said it was a good opportunity for his pupils in Moore and Robinson to gain plenty of experience.
“It’s a good opportunity Tennis Australia does give, to have local wildcards,” he said. “But they have got to be good enough as well.
“I expected them to get that offer within this year or the next year so it’s fantastic. They’ve been given the opportunity this year.
