Man hit toddler on side of face
A MAN who hit a two-year-old on the side of the face has been convicted and placed on a Section 9 bond.
John Tatnell, 34, of Culnane Place, appeared before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court charged with common assault and contravening an apprehended violence order.
Police facts tendered to the court told how on August 11 last year the victim’s mother, who was a witness, told Tatnell she was ducking out of the house for a few minutes.
The witness told police Tatnell had not seen her standing in the doorway when she heard him say to the two-year-old “I’m [expletive] sick of you” and then used the back of his hand to slap the victim on the left side of the face.
The witness saw this happen, and then said “What the [expletive]” and the child then put his left hand up to the left side of his face and started crying.
Bathurst police were contacted by the witness, and officers observed a mark near the toddler’s left eye.
Police found Tatnell in Boyd Street and charged him with assault and breaching an apprehended violence order.
On the assault matter Mr Allen convicted Tatnell and placed him on a bond for 16 months.
He was also sentenced to serve 100 hours community service for contravening an apprehended violence order.
