A COUPLE of Port Macquarie siblings are making a splash in the diving ranks.
Fifteen-year-old Lucie and 12-year-old Julia have recently returned from the NSW Country Diving Championships in Canberra with a silver and a bronze each.
Their mother Denise said it was a great achievement for the girls who are a part of the small Diving North Coast Club.
The club is run from the Wauchope Pool and has under 10 members.
The girls’ proud mother said she hoped the message would get out to other youngsters in the area that would like to try the sport.
“It’s a great club,” she said. “The girls did a great job scoring the medals they did coming from such a small club. It’s an amazing achievement.”
Although coming from a small country club the eldest of the two, Lucie, has a wealth of experience when it comes to diving.
She dived with the Institute of Sport in Perth until she was injured and her younger sister is following in her footsteps and showing a natural talent also.
Lucie performed so well at the diving championships she qualified to compete in the National Championships to be held in Melbourne later this year.
The youngster didn’t just qualify though, she smashed the qualifying standard by over 50 points.
Coach for Diving North Coast, Richard Clement, was impressed with the results of his students, and said he was blessed with such a talented group of divers.
Clement would recognise talent when he sees it being an ex-world Masters Champion.
He also urged other youngsters who would like to try the sport to have a go.
“Especially anyone who has a background in gymnastics, dance or acrobatics,” he said. “But everyone is welcome to come and give it a go.”
For times of classes contact the club president on 0407 513 979.
